LaNorris Sellers: A Championship Caliber Prospect

LaNorris Sellers: A Championship Caliber Prospect

I will be honest, I did not want to end up here. It is a tired narrative: fantasy analyst who studies rookies gets excited about a super athletic young quarterback. It would make for a spicier narrative if I reviewed LaNorris Sellers and came away disappointed. I do not evaluate for narrative, though. I evaluate to help you win fantasy championships.

The first game I watched of Sellers was against Clemson. It took me about five snaps to realize that the Gamecocks quarterback is going to help you win fantasy championships.

The Hype, Explained

LaNorris Sellers is currently QB4 and 6th overall in ADP, according to Campus to Canton's most recent superflex mock draft data. His momentum comes off the back of a success debut season as the South Carolina starter. Sellers led the Gamecocks to an unexpected 8 win season, including wins against Clemson, Mizzou and Texas A&M. He also took Alabama and LSU to the wire.

Sellers's size surely contributes to his hype, as well. The redshirt sophomore is 6-3, 242 lbs. He carries that weight very well.

The Gamecocks star completed 65% of his 299 passing attempts for 2,534 yards. He threw for 18 touchdowns to just 7 interceptions. Perhaps more interesting for fantasy managers is his rushing stat line. He rushed for 674 yards and 7 touchdowns on 166 carries. Sellers put together his impressive production despite playing through injury for about a month early in the season.

Seller's early career success in the SEC comes at a good time. We are fresh off an underwhelming 2025 quarterback class and fantasy managers are hungry for an exciting prospect. In Sellers, we have just that.

Fantasy Top Line

Sellers' athleticism, speed, physicality and elusive give him significant fantasy football upside. He has to develop further as a passer but has the foundation to realistically develop into a first round passer over the course of the 2025 season.

If he continues to progress he will be locked into a top 10 NFL Draft slot and will project as an instant top 10 fantasy football scorer at the quarterback position.

Tape Summary

Sellers is a dynamic athlete with a good mechanical foundation. He has elite athleticism, fluidity for his size and is physically willing. His contact balance is particularly impressive, both in the pocket and open space.

His mechanics can be tightened as a second year starter but he has a consistent throwing motion and he throws with an in-sync lower body. Sellers lacks high-end arm strength but can utilize touch well and has big play potential when he is throwing the ball into the deep field. He needs to improve his accuracy around the field and display a higher level of processing ability.

The Mechanics Sold Me

It is rare to see a first year starter with a great mechanical foundation. I will often give underclassmen passers a healthy amount of grace, hoping for a leap in their second year. I did not have to offer Sellers that same grace.

He has a consistent and fluid throwing motion. He is light on his feet in the pocket and his lower body is consistently in sync with his throwing motion. He has a good release and can adjust his timing under pressure.

Shades of Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen

It would be inappropriate to compare LaNorris Sellers' athleticism to Lamar Jackson, but I will do it anyway. Sellers is a fast runner, especially for his size. He is quick moving laterally and is a very fluid athlete. He is explosive once he decides to take off and has great burst running upfield.

The most exciting part of Sellers' athleticism is how easy he makes it look. He practically glides through space, shaking defenders seemingly without a sweat. I have not seen that type of athleticism and confidence rushing since watching Lamar Jackson at Louisville.

Pair that with a unique level of physicality in his rushing style. Sellers has excellent contact balance, impressive escapability in the pocket and is physically willing to take on defenders. He is tenacious but under control when it comes to putting his body on the line to win in short yardage situations-similar to Josh Allen.

Calm Under Pressure

It is easy for a young quarterback to panic under pressure. Sellers refused to do so in 2024. He remains calm when the pocket collapses around him. Despite having the athleticism to take off every time, Sellers will stick in the pocket to try and make the throw when it is reasonable.

Sellers was not asked to work past the second progression often, which is on par for young passers. He does display good decision making when it comes to check-downs and throwing the ball away. He rarely forces the ball into tight coverage.

The Arm Talent is Good Enough

Sellers can push the ball into the deep field but it requires extra time from his protection and he does have to sacrifice some mechanics. He has solid velocity and a tight spiral through the mid-field. He displays the ability to put good touch on his passes, but is not consistent.

Sellers' arm talent is not what will get him drafted as a top 10 selection. He does have enough arm talent, though, to execute an NFL offense. It may not be a strength of his but it does not limit him to be a run-only quarterback.

The Key Improvement

My goal when summer scouting is to identify a prospect's weaknesses and outline how an improvement will effect their fantasy value. For Sellers, that is his accuracy. If he can improve his accuracy then he has a fast track to the top of the 2026 NFL Draft. If he does not, it is reasonable to expect that he would return for an additional collegiate season before declaring for the 2027 NFL Draft.

Sellers struggles to lead his receivers consistently. He has a tendency to miss high at all three levels of the field. He needs to improve as a confident passer over the middle of the field, in particular. Oddly, he is most accurate when pushing the ball downfield.

The Last Word

Sellers is far from a perfect prospect but his tape review was enough to spring him to the top of the 2026 Rookie Big Board. His athleticism, mechanics and mental processing are impressive relative to his experience. If he can improve his accuracy he should have no problem securing coveted top 10 NFL Draft capital.

I do not usually advocate for buying high, but that is exactly what I will be doing with Sellers. The Gamecocks start the season against Virginia Tech, South Carolina State and Vanderbilt. His stock will be so high by October you won't be able to entertain a trade to the manager in your devy league who has him.

Sellers' value lies in his upside but chasing upside is good process when the prospect has a championship caliber profile.
